Harvest Celebration

The first harvest at the Alyssa farm has been finished!

Alan Baum said, “Soon after [the harvest was completed], the combines, trucks, and other equipment came trailing into the yard tooting their horns in exuberance. The celebration took shape with a bonfire, food, music, and dancing. We are happy that this harvest is behind us.”

Ayenew Mequanent, an MAI employee working in Addis Ababa, said that this kind of feast is customarily prepared in Ethiopia after a harvest. It will encourage the staff as they continue to work on the next planting season.

Bracken Clark has been driving a new tractor on the farm, which feels more like home. He has also been busy setting up the new Kello-bilt disk, and it seems to be doing a fine job.

However, the second John Deere drill arrived at the Alyssa farm in poor shape, after the long trip from Addis Ababa. Several parts will need to be replaced before the drill will be in operable condition.

The ground will continue to be prepared for the next planting season, which starts about the first of September.
